M & I spent a quick yet refreshing weekend in Wilmington, NC. It was partly to celebrate our 7th anniversary (technically on 4/19), and to get in some couple time before our life gets hectic with all the upcoming changes. Unlike most of our trips, all we planned beforehand was where to stay. We decided we'd opt for a B&B this time, having never done that before, and what a great choice it was. It was a charming place with an innkeeper who exuded Southern hospitality. We essentially had a whole suite to ourselves and it was a lovely place with antique decor, a claw foot bathtub, etc.
We did a lot of exploring on Saturday and it was great weather for it (mid-80s, sunny with the perfect breeze). I love cities that have rivers as it just adds so much character, and Wilmington was no different. It was the first weekend of the Farmer's Market, and there was a Hot Rod Show going on too in downtown. We walked around, enjoyed the cars and the people-watching and found a little local place for some lunch. We then drove out to Wrightsville Beach (my first trip to a NC beach, in spite of having lived in the state for nearly 20 years!). In the evening, we had dinner at a wonderful local restaurant that was recommended by a colleague. It was a nice low-key weekend (just like we wanted) with lots of good conversation and couple time, doing what we love to do most: seeing new places and spending time together!
